Maths - Mapping

In Maths we are learning about maps and how to use them to give directions and find places. Today we worked in pairs to give directions to our buddy to get from school to another point on the map. We have learnt about co-ordinates, grids and giving directions using specific descriptions such as turn at the third street on the left. We are really enjoying this learning. Ask your child to navigate next time you are out.

Writing Snippets

Last week we wrote about one thing we did on holiday. Toady we published our favourite sentence from our story. These are now on the classroom wall - come in to read them.

Here's a few:

I watched my sister’s sand castle crumble like crumbs on a cookie.
Ysabella

We had KFC, fish and chips and pizza. I was stuffed like a teddy bear after that.
William

My dad and I made lunch the night before. It was chicken, lamb and salad. Nana made traffic light jelly. Mum and Hugo packed bananas, peaches and nectarines. We bought bread rolls and butter. Uncle Dan just sat on the chilly bin.
Madde

(Opening sentence) Oh no! Not again! Christmas shopping troubles.
….
(conclusion) The next day I wrapped all the presents and while I was doing that I felt proud for dealing with the problem.
Pavlos

When I got ready I put tight clothes on by accident. I could feel the layers squeezing my body like I was in a small room.
Maia P

Grandma said, “Who wants to open presents?”
Sam, Jess and I said, “Me.” all together because we were so excited. Then Jackson said, “Me,” which was really cute.
Taylor

My head was crumbling like sand since I didn't get any fish.
Matthew

I lay down and the waves smashed over me.

Try to select a prayer that has a special meaning for you.

Your homework is due on Friday 10 February but you are more than welcome to hand it in before then. If your work is not completed by this time, please bring a note from your parents so that I can be understanding and give a time extension.

Term 1 Week 1

Our first week of the school year is over. It has been a good week as we have all got to know each other and settled into the routines. We've learnt a few things and had some laughs along the way. Ask about the game called Red Handed which we played on Thursday. Thank you for your support in providing the correct stationery and ensuring your child is at school between 8:30am and 8:55am each day ready to learn.

We have discussed what we can do to make this year a great one of learning and fun. We have written a Treaty, which we will all sign next week. One of the things we discussed was rewards. We decided that the leader and second leader will give points to people they see doing the right thing. On Fridays we will add them up and acknowledge the two students who have earned the most points each week. This week we congratulate Materoa and Ysabella.

Well done Materoa and Ysabella, you are super role models.

Next week we will share some writing and other class activities on this blog.
Have a great long weekend.
