The School Bus Robot

Nina, Ysabella, Toby, Leon, Maia P,
William and Nia presented a play called 'The School Bus Robot'.
They had practised well and their presentation was great.
They all spoke clearly, knew when it was their turn and made good use of the space to move into and off the bus,
which was the setting for the play.
Ka pai to you all.

Forensic Fun

Today Rebecca from Science Alive visited our class. She told us that there had been a theft of a special candy recipe from the Candy factory. We had to use science to check the evidence so we could work out who had committed the crime.

The first thing we did was to identify the fingerprints left at the scene. We also took our own finger print and worked out what type of finger print we had.

We then used blotting paper and water to find out whose pen had been used to write the note left at the scene. This is called chromatography.

We compared the mud left at the crime scene with mud taken from the suspects' boots. The evidence showed that the mud was magnetic and sunk in water.

For the next testing process we needed to wear safety glasses to stop any of the liquid splashing into our eyes.

We tested the liquid found at the scene. We used the pH scale and discovered that the liquid was acidic.

The last test involved using a reacting agent and a catalyst to check the liquid found at the scene of the crime.
At the end the evidence pointed to Mercedes as the person who had committed the crime.

We recorded our results as we completed each test.

We all had a great time with Rebecca and learnt lots of new things. A special thanks to Pania and Sophie for helping us.

Happy Birthday and Cycle Safety

On Sunday Maia F turned 10. Today we sang 'Happy Birthday' and wished her all the best as a 10 year old.

Today the Year 6s learnt about being safe when out biking. First Constable Megan talked to us about some important laws related to cycling. If our bikes are not road worthy or we do not wear a helmet we may be fined $55 for each offence. Next we checked our helmets to make sure they were not cracked and that they fit properly.

Then we were out on the courts riding. We learnt to signal when we turn and stop and where we should ride on the road. Some of us found it tricky to take our hand off the handlebar so that we could signal, but we kept practising and by the end of the session we were getting better.

After lunch we spent some time in the classroom learning how to get safely through an intersection.

On Wednesday and Thursday most of us will ride on the road.
