First Aid

Today Stacey and Fi from Red Cross came to talk to us. Fi showed us a video about Red Cross. We learnt where and when Red Cross was established and some of the things Red Cross does. Then Stacey taught us First Aid. We learnt to use DRSABC when we come across an accident or other emergency. This is for Dangers - check for dangers before trying to help anyone; Response - check if the person can hear and respond; Send for help; Airway - is the person breathing; Bleeding - is there any bleeding; Circulation - stop any bleeding.
We discussed how to place an unconscious person and then had a turn at putting a buddy into the stable side position. We also discussed what to do if someone is choking, has been poisoned, burnt, broken a bone or is bleeding. We took turns to put a bandage on a buddy.
After lunch we were given a scenario to act out. It was a great day and we all learnt a lot of new skills.
Stacey challenged us to find out where our First Aid kit is at home.
